We are busy little elves in first grade this month! This will be our last week of school for 2011. Our last day of school will be Dec. 16th and we will resume class on Jan. 2. But until then we will keep ourselves busy with math, reading, writing, and some fun art activities and Christmas sing-a-longs too!
On Thursday, Dec. 15th we will be decorating our gingerbread houses at 2:45. We would love to have you come and help your child with this fun activity! Thank you to those who have sent in candy, frosting and crackers to help with this. On Friday, Dec. 16th we are walking to SUU to see "A Christmas Carol." We will leave right at 9:00am so be on time. That same day at 2:30 we will have our class Christmas party. If you have not sent in a wrapped gift from the dollar store please do so ASAP. Thank you for sharing your children with me thus far this year. I am looking forward to more great things happening with them in 2012!

We are thankful
There is so much to be thankful for. I love this time of year when we all actually take the time to remember all we have been blesses with. We have been doing quite a few Thanksgiving activities this month. We have been learning about the Pilgrims and the Native Americans in social studies. We have been spending time talking about all that we have to be thankful for. We have also been busy practicing our Three Piggy Opera. We will be performing for you on Dec. 5th at 5:30pm. Mark your calendars it will be a great show!!! Thanksgiving break will begin on Wednesday, November 23 we will resume class on Monday, November 28th. I know one thing I am thankful for is your children. Thank you for sharing them with me. We have a great class this year!

Welcome fall!!
Fall is here! I had a great time meeting with all of you at the SEP's last week. Thank you so much for keeping your appointments. I had 100% attendance this year at our fall SEP's. That is a tribute to you as parents. It shows how you value your child's education and it makes my job much easier. So thank you!!! We have been doing some fun fall activities this month. We spent a week learning about bats. We spent another week learning about spiders. And we will spend a week on owls. We will be going to the pumpkin patch on Wednesday the 19th. If any of you would like to come with you are certainly welcome. We will be leaving the school promptly at 9:00 and returning by 10:30. That same day the Ballroom Dance Team from Provo will be preforming at our school at 11:00. Just FYI so you can be thinking about it. We will be wearing our Halloween costumes to school on the afternoon of Oct. 31st. The students can bring their costume and put it on after lunch. No masks, weapons, or face paint at school. We will be having a party that afternoon and a school sing if you would like to join us! The festivities will start at 1:00.

SEP 's coming up next week!
I am getting SEP notes ready to send home with you today. I am really looking forward to meeting with you next week. You may have heard your students mention another teacher named Mrs. Fail. She was here with us last week. She is a student at SUU studying to be a teacher. It was great having her in our class. She brought so many fun ideas and lots of energy to our class. We are so lucky to have SUU so close to our school and be able to have some of the students in the education department share their talents with us. See ya next week!!

December Happenings
I cannot believe it is already December!!! We have so many fun things going on this month. I sent home a newsletter about all these things but just as a reminder here they are again...
We are learning about Christmas around the world instead of our regular science and social studies lessons this month. We will learn about Christmas in China, Mexico, Holland, Germany, Italy, and Sweden.
We have 2 birthdays this month: Abbie on the 2nd and Heidi on the 4th.
We will go to CVHS on Monday the 6th to see the drama dept. presentation of White Christmas.
On December 7th we have a special assembly done by some of the SUU Athletes.
We have been practicing like mad for our 3 Piggy Opera!!! Hopefully you have heard your child singing some of the songs for you. Mark your calendars for Monday, December 13th at 6:00pm for our performance. You will NOT want to miss this.
On December 13th from 9:00-10:30 am I need some volunteers to help assemble our gingerbread houses so they will be ready to decorate on the 17th. If you can come in and do that will you please email or call me? Thank you.
We will be decorating our gingerbread houses on Friday the 17th at 2:30. This is a first grade tradition and always fun. Please set aside an hour to come spend sometime with you first grader and decorate their house with them. We need CANDY, KEEBLER GRAHAM CRACKERS, AND WHITE FROSTING to make this happen. Please send theses items in ASAP.
